Reports indicate that an executive overhaul is brewing at leading tech giant Apple. This change of guard is rumored to be headlined by the departure of Tim Cook, who has served the company as CEO for over a decade.
Jeff Williams, the company’s COO, also stepped aside from his duties back in July and is expected to exit the company at this year’s end.
John Giannandrea has also had a troubled tenure as the head of the company’s AI operations. His department has had so many challenges that the tech firm is now looking to fill this leadership position by sourcing from outside the company. Zongjian Chen, the current head of Apple’s modem group, stands as a strong contender to replace Giannandrea in case a superior candidate sourced externally isn’t found.
Johnnie Srouji, who heads Apple’s hardware technologies section, is also uncertain about his continued presence at the firm and is weighing his options. Sri Santhanam is being considered as his possible successor. Santhanam has been leading the team in charge of device processors at the company.
To further stretch the list of upcoming departures, Lisa Jackson, the current head of the eco-friendly initiatives at Apple, has also made hints that she could retire soon.
For Tim Cook, one strong contender from within the company to replace him is John Ternus. Ternus heads the hardware engineering team and enjoys plenty of respect within the company and its ecosystem. Additionally, Cook highly trusts him, which ups the odds that he will take up the CEO’s job.
These top-level changes in the team steering Apple could have major ramifications upon the operational efficiency and strategic direction of the tech company. The incoming team will not only have the big task of keeping the firm at the top of its industry but they will also have to fend off the growing competition within the niche while also coming up with new innovations to keep the cutting-edge character of the company intact. Consumer demands are also evolving, so the new team will have to address all these dynamics while upholding the status of the company.
