US Could Sell Advanced AI Chips to Saudi Firm Humain

The U.S. is looking to approve the sale of AI chips to Saudi Arabia company Humain, according to people privy to the ongoing discussions. Such a deal would be a big victory for Crown Prince Salman as he concludes his visit to Washington where he has held discussions with President Trump.

The sources that wished to remain anonymous revealed that the AI chips would be part of an accord that is being negotiated between the two countries. Saudi Arabia has had to obtain special permission to import advanced chips from the U.S. since 2023 when export restrictions were broadened by Washington to prevent the technology from ending up in China.

Trump indicated that they were working on that with the Saudi delegation after the meeting at the Oval Office on Tuesday. One official spoke off the record and indicated that shipments of chips would cover thousands of chips but declined to provide additional details.

Tareq Amin, the CEO of Humain, said in October that the company has plans of utilizing at least 400,000 chips by the end of the decade. Scott Bessent, the Commerce Secretary, revealed that after the meeting on Tuesday, the U.S. intended to partner with Saudi Arabia and link it to a number of large tech firms in America. He added that a startup from Saudi Arabia would also be permitted to import a small number of AI chips for deployment.

For several months, discussions have been taking place between Riyadh and Washington with a view to addressing security concerns about any chips exports to the Middle East country finding their way into China. In 2023, America restricted exports to countries, including Saudi Arabia, that were deemed to have strong links with China and could therefore be used as a front to access American technology.

To appease Washington, Riyadh promised billions of dollars in investment into the U.S. during a tour by Trump of the Middle East that included a stop in Saudi Arabia back in May. The CEO of Humain vowed that the company would completely cut ties with Huawei, a Chinese tech giant, if the U.S. requested it to. Many tech companies in America have been pointing to Huawei’s efforts to lure customers in the Middle East as justification for lobbying Washington to ease export restrictions so that China doesn’t grab the global tech market at the expense of the U.S.

If an export deal is announced, many American AI giants like Nvidia Corp. (NASDAQ: NVDA) would immensely benefit from making sales to Saudi Arabian companies. If the $50 billion pledged by the Crown Prince as being earmarked for purchases of chips is anything to go by, American technology firms stand to bump up their revenue from the region considerably.
